Privacy Notice: RITEC Community of Practice

Last Updated: 10/9/2026

The RITEC Community of Practice (the “Community of Practice”) is a peer network of designers, product leads, and trust & safety professionals applying RITEC principles in their own work, facilitated day to day by The Joan Ganz Cooney Center for Educational Media and Research, Inc. (“JGCC”), an affiliate of Sesame Workshop. JGCC uses Sesame Workshop’s systems to store and manage information (including in an Airtable database hosted by Sesame Workshop). As a result, both JGCC and Sesame Workshop (together, “we”) may access and use the personal information you provide.

What we collect. We collect your name, email address, organization and role, when you register and join. We also collect your Slack profile and the messages, files, and other content you post in the Community of Practice’s Slack workspace. In addition, we collect your attendance and participation in quarterly virtual meetings (via Zoom) and the annual in-person summit, including recordings of the virtual meetings and any photos or video taken at the summit. We also collect information you provide in surveys, interviews, and other feedback, any reports or concerns you raise under the Community Rules, and platform analytics (such as the number of posts and attendance by region).

Why we collect it. We use this information to run the Community of Practice. That includes inviting you to meetings and the summit, shaping agendas based on member input, providing Slack access, sharing resources, and supporting peer learning and co-creation. We also use it to communicate with you about the Community of Practice, to review registrations and enforce the Community Rules, to report to the partners and funders described below, and to understand, in aggregate, how the Community of Practice is used.We do not sell your personal information.

Who sees it. Other Community of Practice members can see what you post in Slack or share in meetings. Our service providers that host these tools also handle it, along with others described in the Privacy Policy. Recordings and written recaps of virtual meetings are shared with members, including those who did not attend. We do not distribute your email address or phone number to other members, although what you include in your Slack profile is visible to them. The Community Rules ask members to follow the Chatham House Rule and to keep confidential what they learn, but we cannot control what other members do with information you share. We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce the Community Rules, or to protect the safety of children or others.

RITEC partners and funders. The Community of Practice is part of RITEC, a global initiative led by UNICEF in partnership with the LEGO Foundation, the LEGO Group, JGCC, and Games for Change. We may share limited registration information, and aggregate participation data and survey results, with these partners and funders for internal reporting and program evaluation. UNICEF also reviews and approves case studies and other external-facing Community of Practice content before it is published.

Case studies, video, and photos. If you take part in a case study, we will confirm with you beforehand whether you may be named or would prefer to be anonymized, and you will be able to review your quotes and details before the case study goes further. Case studies are published on the Community of Practice website and promoted on Slack and in social media. We will record you on video, or use your image or likeness, only if you give a separate, specific opt-in.

Member-organized meetups. JGCC and Sesame Workshop do not organize, supervise, or control meetups organized by members. Member organizers are responsible for any information they collect at those meetups, and this notice does not cover it.

Eligibility and information about others. The Community of Practice is for adults 18 years of age or older, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Under the Community Rules, you may not share personally identifiable information about minors under any circumstances, or personal information about other people without their consent. We may remove content that violates this rule.

Third-party platforms. The Community of Practice meets and communicates through third-party platforms, including Zoom and Slack. When you use them, your information is also collected and used under their own terms and privacy policies, which we don’t control. By participating, you acknowledge that those policies apply in addition to this notice, including the Zoom Privacy Statement and the Slack Privacy Policy.

International transfers. If you are located outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States and may be processed in other countries. You may request details of the mechanism we use by contacting ritec-community@sesame.org.

Your choices. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, or withdraw your consent, by contacting ritec-community@sesame.org. Withdrawing may mean you can no longer take part in the Community of Practice. Withdrawing your consent will not affect how we used your information before you withdrew. To exercise rights regarding data held by Zoom or Slack, please contact those platforms.

How long we keep it. We keep your information while you are a member. If you leave, we will end your Slack access except that we may keep information we need for legal, reporting, or security purposes. If you become inactive, we move you to inactive status rather than deleting your information, so that you can reactivate by re-engaging. If you are removed from the Community of Practice under the Community Rules, we will keep a record of the removal so that your access is not restored. Content you previously posted or shared with other members may remain visible, and published case studies remain on the Community of Practice website, unless you ask us to remove them as described under Your choices.

Artificial intelligence. We may use artificial intelligence (“AI”) tools to help run the Community of Practice and analyze Community of Practice activity. This may include transcribing or summarizing meetings, summarizing or organizing Slack discussions, identifying themes across member input, and drafting meeting notes, resources, or reports. These tools may process the information described in this notice, including content you share in meetings and in Slack. AI tools can make errors, and we review AI-generated outputs before relying on them or sharing them outside the Community of Practice. Zoom and Slack may also offer their own AI features, which are governed by their terms and privacy policies. If you have questions or would like to object to AI processing of your information, contact ritec-community@sesame.org.

Related documents and changes. This notice is in addition to, and does not replace, the Release and Waiver of Liability and the RITEC Community of Practice Operator’s Manual and Community Rules, or any other document you accept separately. Nothing in the Release and Waiver of Liability limits your rights under this notice, including your right to update or withdraw your consent. If this notice conflicts with the Operator’s Manual on the subject of data or privacy, this notice controls. Nothing in or relating to this notice is a waiver, express or implied, of any of the privileges and immunities of the United Nations, including UNICEF. We reserve the right to update this notice from time to time by posting the updated notice and notifying members, for example by email or an announcement in Slack. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this notice and provide any additional notice required by applicable law. Updates take effect when posted, unless a later date is stated. We will not change how we handle information we have already collected without providing notice and, where required by law, obtaining your consent. If you do not agree to an update, you may withdraw your consent and stop participating as described under Your choices. Where applicable law does not require your affirmative consent, your continued participation in the Community of Practice after notice of an update means you accept it.
